How #Vyommitra is testing India’s first manned space flight
India is developing robots to get ahead. Not because it would be too dangerous for humans to go into space, but because rigorous testing is required before entering the capsule. This is Vyommitra. The name is Sanskrit, vyom means space and mitra means friend. It sounds very poetic. It is very practical.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has created this humanoid robot. feminine qualities. They chose the female design not for aesthetics, but to match the proportions of the seats and control panels of the spacecraft they were testing. I have to agree. have to move.
Vyomitra flies to Gaganyan. This is India’s strong push towards manned space flight. The first test flight, called G1, is unmanned. no one. Just a machine. And Vyommitra.
Why a female robot?
This has nothing to do with gender politics. It’s all about geometry. Gaganyaan capsules are small. The seat is designed based on average human body dimensions. ISRO gave Vyomitra a female form, allowing the robot to adapt to its environment like an astronaut. This design works if the robot can sit inside the capsule, reach out and manipulate the controls.
Robots’ jobs are simple, but also important. Simulate crew actions. You are sitting in the cockpit. You have to press the button. Monitor your system. Watch for errors. If something goes wrong, Vyomitra will be the first to notice it. It then sends the data back to Earth.

Gaganyaan Bet

Vyomitra is a safety net. Fly the G1 mission. This is the first unmanned test. More tests followed. But the G1 is a proof of concept. If Vyommitra is able to operate the spacecraft autonomously or semi-autonomously, the system will prove to be very capable.
